RESUMO

BACKGROUND: To investigate the value of D-dimer combined with red blood cell distribution width (RDW) in evaluating the disease activity of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). METHODS: A total of 105 SLE patients confirmed in our hospital from July 2018 to September 2020 were collected as the SLE group, and 60 healthy persons matched in age and gender during the same period were collected as the control group. According to the SLEDAI score, SLE patients were divided into SLE active group and SLE inactive group, and RDW and D-Dimer levels were detected. RESULTS: The level of RDW in the SLE active group [14.8 (13.4, 16.8)] was significantly higher than that in the SLE inactive group [13.4 (12.6, 14.37)] and control group [12.3 (12, 12.7)], with statistically significant differences (p < 0.05). The D-dimer level in the SLE active group was 1.36 (0.9, 2.25) mg/L, which was significantly higher than that in SLE inactive group [0.34 (0.22, 0.52)] mg/L and control group [0.15 (0.08, 0.19)] mg/L, with statistically significant differences (p < 0.05). Both RDW and D-dimer were positively correlated with the SLEDAI score (r = 0.393, p = 0.000), (r = 0.483, p = 0.000). The results of receiver operating characteristic curve showed that the area under the curve of RDW and D-Dimer alone was 0.875 and 0.954, respectively, while the area under the curve of RDW combined with D-Dimer was the largest, 0.984. CONCLUSIONS: The levels of RDW and D-dimer are closely related to the disease activity of SLE patients, and RDW combined with D-dimer is more valuable in assessing the disease activity of SLE patients.

RESUMO

The coexistence of large conductivity and robust ferroelectricity is promising for high-performance ferroelectric devices based on polarization-controllable highly efficient carrier transport. Distinct from traditional perovskite ferroelectrics, Bi2 WO6 with a layered structure shows a great potential to preserve its ferroelectricity under substantial electron doping. Herein, by artificial design of photosensitive heterostructures with desired band alignment, three orders of magnitude enhancement of the short-circuit photocurrent is achieved in Bi2 WO6 /SrTiO3 at room temperature. The microscopic mechanism of this large photocurrent originates from separated transport of electrons and holes in [WO4 ]-2 and [Bi2 O2 ]+2 layers respectively with a large in-plane conductivity, which is understood by a combination of ab initio calculations and spectroscopic measurements. The layered electronic structure and appropriately designed band alignment in this layered ferroelectric heterostructure provide an opportunity to achieve high-performance and nonvolatile switchable electronic devices.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the association between positive urinary casts on microscopic examination and urinary microprotein concentration in the case of negative urinary protein test results. This study also investigated the diagnostic value of urinary microprotein examination. SUBJECTS: A total of 949 samples that were analyzed with a UF-1000i Urine Analyzer and returned cast alarm results were categorized into two groups, a positive and negative group, according to qualitative urinary protein sulfosalicylic acid test results. Then, 54 samples with negative protein test results but positive cast results according to microscopic examination were selected as the study group; 60 normal people with healthy physical examination results were selected as the control group. Both groups underwent urinary microprotein tests, including urinary microalbumin (mAlb), α1-microglobulin (A1M), transferrin (TRU), and immunoglobulin G (IgG). T tests were used to evaluate mean differences between groups and chi-square tests were used to calculate ratio differences between groups. RESULTS: (a) Microscopic examinations of the positive and negative protein groups revealed no statistically significant difference in cast detection rate (P = .421). (b) Among the 54 samples in the study group, 37 were found to have abnormal casts, while in the remaining 17 samples, only hyaline casts were detected. (c) The detection levels of mAlb, A1M, and IgG in the study group were significantly higher than the control group (P values < .05). CONCLUSION: Urinary microprotein test should be included in the re-examination rules for routine tests for patients with negative protein results and positive casts under microscopic examination.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Minimal-change nephrotic syndrome is an idiopathic disease in which protein leaks through podocytes into the urine. We used proteomic tools to examine differences of plasma protein expression in healthy rats and rats with doxorubicin-induced nephropathy treated with or without prednisone. METHODS: Healthy three-month-old Sprague-Dawley male rats were randomly chosen for one injection of doxorubicin (5.5 mg/kg) through the caudal vein to induce nephropathy (n = 50) or the same volume of saline (control, n = 20). After 1 week, 25 rats in the nephropathy group received topical prednisone (5.5 mg/kg/day) for 21 days and another 25 rats (untreated nephropathy) and the control rats received topical water. At 4 weeks, protein chips generated from rat plasma samples were analyzed by surface enhanced laser desorption/ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry (SELDI-TOF-MS) to obtain mass-to-charge ratios (m/z) of proteins of 2-50 kDa. RESULTS: Relative to control rats, untreated nephropathic rats had four significantly higher and seven significantly lower m/z peaks. Prednisone treatment significantly normalized the intensities of peaks 9069 and 15005 (which correspond to cortexin-1 and interleukin-17A, respectively, according to Swiss Prot database) by increasing the expression of 9069 but reducing expression of 15005. CONCLUSION: Significant differences in plasma proteins can be identified by proteomic analysis using SELDI-TOF-MS in a rat model of nephropathy.

RESUMO

Metamaterials (MMs) have shown huge potential in sensing applications by detecting their optical properties, which can be designed to operate at frequencies from visible to mid-IR. Here we constructed complementary split ring resonator (CSRR) based metamaterials in nanoscale with unit length of 100 nm and slit width of 30 nm, and observed obvious responses in the visible waveband from 600 to 900 nm. These visible responses show a good tunability with the structure's geometry, and are well suited for dielectric detection. We demonstrated good refractive index sensing of CSRR based metamaterials in the visible region under both 0° and 90° polarized incidence. Our results extend the study of CSRR based metamaterials to the visible region, which is expected to deepen the understanding of the response mechanism of CSRRs and benefit their sensing applications in the visible region.

RESUMO

The Brillouin scattering spectroscopy studies have been conducted in a diamond anvil cell for a liquid mixtures composed of 95 mol % H(2)O and 5 mol % CO(2) under high temperatures and pressures. The sound velocity, refractive index, density, and adiabatic bulk modulus of the H(2)O+CO(2) mixtures were determined under pressures up to the freezing point at 293, 453, and 575 K. It is found from the experiment that sound velocities of the liquid mixture are substantially lower than those of pure water at 575 K, but not at lower temperatures. We presented an empirical relation of the density in terms of pressure and temperature. Our results show that liquid H(2)O+CO(2) mixtures are more compressible than water obtained from an existing equation of state of at 453 and 575 K.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To identify the genes differentially expressed among the steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome (SRNS), steroid-sensitive nephrotic syndrome (SSNS) and normal children, and understand the molecular mechanism of SRNS. METHODS: Affymetrix microarray technology was used to obtain such a profile. The differentially expressed genes among these groups were identified based on signal-to-noise ratios by GCOS software; real-time PCR analysis was performed to confirm the microarray results. RESULTS: There were 157 genes differentially expressed among these groups. The genes up-regulated both in SRNS and SSNS were involved primarily in ionic transportation, immuno-signal transduction and apoptosis. In particular, CLNS1A gene was down regulated in SRNS but up regulated in SSNS. CONCLUSION: Several differentially expressed genes, such as CLNS1A and HLA-DRB4 were found to be closely related to the pathogenesis of SRNS and SSNS. This DNA microarray analysis has provided some important clue to the molecular mechanism of SRNS.
